Man of constant sorrow
RA, Western, 2008
I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen trouble all my days
I've gotta say good-bye to Colorado
Where I was born and partly raised
Your mother said I'm just a stranger
My face you'll never see no more
No matter how much I ramble
I'll see you on God's golden shore
For six long years I've been in trouble
No pleasure here on earth I've found
For in this world I'm bound to ramble
I have no friends to help me now
Yes through this open world I'm bound to ramble
Through ice and snow sleet and rain
I'm bound to ride that morning railroad
I think I'll die riding on that train

About
There are millions of verses to this one - been popular. At one time I sort of edited it - why shouldn't he see his daughter? (Or perhaps of course it's a sweetheart, and mother-in-law understandably didn't approve). And I felt like leaving out verses with God's golden shore. But somehow the self-pity (ice, snow, sleet, rain!) of a bum (or troublemaker, or is he really just unfortunate?) seems to fit with the rather pathetic persona.
Dylan's version has been somewhat superseded by Soggy Bottom Boys (in other words Dan Tyminski)
