Looking for you

The snow is falling and the trees are black
The day's moving forward and I'm looking back
All the things I felt I had to do
When I should have been lookin for you
I could have been looking for you.

Stood on the bridge in the midnight rain
I thought it was something, but it was nothing again
Always the same whatever I do
Perhaps I was looking for you
I could have been looking for you

I stayed too long
Where I didn't belong
But somehow I've always known
You were there to find
It was you on my mind
When I felt like coming home
It still feels like coming home.

We were heading for sorrow, though it started out right
I wanted peace, she wanted a fight
I didn't believe her but perhaps she was right
When she said I was looking for you
I could have been looking for you

I helped pack the lorry with all of her stuff
We did what we could, but it was never enough
I didn't know then but I guess that it's true
I think I was looking for you
I could have been looking for you

I stayed too long ...

The day is fading and the trees are white
I'm walking gladly into this night
Dark brings no fears like it used to do
Now that I'm looking at you
I've always been looking for you.

I stayed too long ...

It all started with a jam at Steve's place - 2009.  We got this chord sequence to embroider around and I liked it and took it home with me.  A melody seemed to present itself; a chorus likewise.  All i needed was the words.  I liked the tune so much that I decided it would have to be a love song - none of this lamenting over leaving and what have you.  So I wrote one.

People who know me might imagine they can see autobiographical details; but it doesn't really signify except for one thing.  This is a traditional love song.  For Anette.
